ChaLEAN Extreme is Done - What’s Next?
Today I did my last workout for ChaLEAN Extreme! Some folks seem to feel sad when they reach the end of a good exercise program: I’m exhilerated. Why? Because I’m in much better shape now than when I began, and I’m looking forward to building higher on this foundation. I’m looking forward to the next challenge!
Now, to be honest, Jan and I have been planning to do ChaLEAN a second time, starting in a couple of weeks. We decided that we’re not quite ready to get the most out of P90X, but doing ChaLEAN again will get us where we want to be.
For myself, I plan to watch what I eat much more closely than I have been. Not because I want to lose weight, but because I want to gain some back…in muscle. My body fat is at about 11%. I’d like to take it down to maybe 8% or so, but - more importantly - would like to build up some additional muscle.
To do that I really need to plan out my intake to make sure I’m getting enough protein, plus carbs as fuel to do the exercise routines. More than that, this time I think I’m going to experiment with preparing as many meals as possible - hopefully a month’s worth - in advance. Not every meal (salads wouldn’t do so well!), but as many as I can portion out and freeze.
Aside from helping me optimize my food intake, this will minimize the time I need to take in the mornings preparing the big feed bag I take to work. I hate taking the time to put stuff together in the evening, and find that I bumble around for an average of 15 minutes in the morning getting all my stuff together.
So, that’s the plan! But for the next couple of weeks, I’m going to give my body a bit of a break. I plan on doing more Turbo Jam workouts, mix in a little Shaun T, and put in a few miles running. And if the weather gets warm enough soon, maybe we’ll even grab the kayak and hit the water!

You totally can handle P90X at this point. For me, the only limit is time. I can’t do 60-90 minutes a day every day. If you have the time P90X is some of the most brilliantly engineered and wonderfully presented fitness ever put to video. Do it if you can, otherwise obtain it and work in what you can along the way.
