Turbo Jam Maximum ResultsThe other day we got Turbo Jam, another program led by Chalene Johnson of ChaLEAN Extreme fame, and we gave the first segment - Learn and Burn - a try (so I can’t give a complete review here, but will add more as we do the other workouts).

The first thing I’ll say is to reiterate how much I like Chalene! She’s just a fun person and an awesome lady.

The second thing I’ll say is that my core muscles - all the way around - got a good workout! I absolutely hate doing crunches and other more traditional ab and core exercises; this is one of the things that I haven’t done well with in ChaLEAN Extreme or the P90 programs. I’ve done some, but not as much as I should.

I figured Turbo Jam would have some ab work, but didn’t realize how “core” (pardon the pun!) it is to the program until about three hours after our workout this morning! Good grief: my abs, obliques, and lower back muscles are all aching, and this from just the introductory workout, and without having to do a single crunch. Excellent!

After going over the 11 key moves in the program, Chalene started into the main workout. I felt that the aerobic aspect of the Learn and Burn segment was moderate and suitable for beginners through intermediate. Chalene mixes in moves from boxing, martial arts-style kicks, and a style of Brazilian dance, but you don’t have to be Bruce Lee to master this workout!

So, my overall impression after this first workout is a big thumbs-up for Turbo Jam, and I’ll post more reviews as we go through the other workouts.
